Ty Taylor Memorial Scholarship

Ty Taylor was a long-time firefighter in the Hood River Valley, belonging to both Westside and Hood River Fire Departments. His dedication to the providers of both fire protection and emergency medical service has long been recognized. Volunteerism for the purpose of making the public more aware of the dangers of fire and its hazards, and dedication to improving the delivery service for emergency medical care were merely two of Ty’s long and hard-fought goals. His untimely death in 1984 ended his career, but not the memory of his dedication. Thus, the Hood River Fire Department organized a trust fund to enable the advancement of students of the fire and emergency medical services.

Various Hood River Valley Fire Departments, as well as others in the Mid-Columbia area have donated money to the fund to enable the awarding of scholarships for qualified applicants. The fund is controlled by a Board of Directors, consisting of the Hood River Valley Fire Chief’s Association or their designee(s). They shall be the sole determiners of the awarding of any scholarship. All funds donated to the trust are to be held for the trust, and only the interest income shall be awarded.
