Marie Asai was born in Fairview, Oregon in 1923. She passed away in 2012 after living 62 years in Hood River. She was a second-generation Japanese-American who experienced the hardships of The Great Depression and WWII internment, which destroyed her dreams of a post high school education. She was a tireless volunteer for many organizations and an outspoken defender of education.
This is one $1500 scholarship for a female student renewable for up to 3 additional years. Criteria for renewal: Applicant maintains a minimum 3.0 GPA (exception made for institutions only grading as Pass/No Pass).
CRITERIA
- Must be a female HRVHS student
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Participated in extra-curricular activities such as sports, school clubs, 4-H and/or community volunteering / employment

- One Confidential Evaluation Form from an extra-curricular advisor or Employer, can’t be the same person who provided your letter of recommendation
- Essay: The lessons we take from life experiences can be fundamental to later success. Describe a challenge/setback, event, accomplishment, or realization that sparked personal growth and deepened your understanding of yourself or others. In your response, explain how this experience influenced your perspective or shaped who you are today.
- The FAFSA / ORSAA is required for this scholarship.
