In 1973 Jim Carnes began what was to become a long career with the Hood River Valley School District. After serving a year as principal at Mid Valley Elementary, Jim was asked to assume responsibilities at the District Office. Over the next 17 years he served as the K-12 curriculum director, assistant superintendent, and superintendent. He was instrumental in establishing the district-wide ESL program, which grew from just a handful of students to several hundred. Jim truly believed that every child is unique and that every child can learn. During the course of his career he inspired others to believe the same of their students.
This is one $1,500 scholarship.
CRITERIA
- Cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher
- Financial Need
- Applicants intends to pursue a career in education, including early childhood education
