This page provides an overview of the Local Scholarship application process. For more information on any step of the process use the provided links in a given section to navigate to a more detailed page. Students can also use the menu available on the right side of the screen.

Important Dates
Mark your calendars with these important dates. Late requests and document submissions will not be accepted.

1. Browse Available Scholarships
Use the button below to browse scholarships on the home page. Scholarships have been grouped into categories to help students find scholarships that fit their needs. Students may also use the drop-down menu on the right side of the screen to search for scholarships by keyword. If you know the name of a scholarship or the organization providing it, use the search bar in the upper right-hand corner of the website.
2. Make a List
After double checking that you meet all individual scholarship requirements, create a list of the scholarships you plan to apply to. Start by making a list for all scholarships that interest you. After reviewing the list with a parent or school counselor, decide which scholarships you will apply for. Once you have finalized your list, you are ready to proceed to the next step.
3. Prepare Essays & Other Documents
Most scholarships require one or more supplementary documents, typically an essay / personal statement, Confidential Evaluation Form, or list of references. Detailed instructions and advice for supplements are covered on the Supplementary Documents page. Get a head start on your essays and other documents before applications open on January!
Don’t forget to visit writing labs and make use of other resources to get assistance with your scholarship applications.
4. Obtain Common Forms
Students must submit one copy of each of the documents below before you can apply for individual scholarships. Students will be able to view scholarships and scholarship requirements (essays prompts, etc.) on this website, but you will not be able to apply to ANY scholarships before all three documents have been submitted on Kaleidoscope (see step 6). Do not leave these documents for the last minute.

Students will submit the following:
- HRVHS Transcript (include fall semester)
- Activities Chart
- FAFSA or ORSAA (optional, see note below)
Important Information on the FAFSA / ORSAA:
The FAFSA / ORSAA is not a required common form, but students have the option to upload their FAFSA Submission Summary or ORSAA report along with their transcript and Student Activities Chart.
- Some scholarships (particularly scholarships for students with financial need) require the FAFSA / ORSAA as part of their application
- Students who do not upload their FAFSA / ORSAA information will not be able to see or apply for scholarships that require the FAFSA
- Students who have financial need are strongly encouraged to submit their FAFSA / ORSAA
- If you choose to upload your FAFSA / ORSAA, only scholarships that require the FAFSA /ORSAA will be able to see your Student Aid Index. Scholarships that don’t require the FAFSA will not be able to see your Student Aid Index.
Your FAFSA / ORSAA is confidential and will not be shared. The only information shared from your FAFSA or ORSAA is your Student Aid Index (SAI). The FAFSA / ORSAA document is deleted after your SAI is verified by HRVHS staff.
Your documentation status is confidential. Scorers will not know whether you submitted the FAFSA or ORSAA. If you have questions or concerns about your privacy and personal information, please reach out to your guidance counselor, Ms. Ownby or Ms. Bauman.
6. Apply Through Kaleidoscope
All HRVHS Local Scholarship applications are through Kaleidoscope. The Kaleidoscope application link will be available on this website and the HRVHS website on January 2. To apply
- Click “Apply Now” to start the HRVHS general application and create your account (your account will be created automatically upon starting the application).
- Answer the questions in the general application (contact information, grades, extracurricular activities, and financial statement)
- Upload your transcript and activities chart. If applicable, upload your FAFSA / ORSAA.
Once you have completed the general application, Kaleidoscope will provide you with a customized list of scholarships you are eligible for. If you don’t see a scholarship that you believe you are eligible, please contact Alex Fleming (alex.fleming@hoodriver.k12.or.us), Ms. Ownby, Ms. Bauer, or Ms. Bauman.
Click on a scholarship tile to open the application for that scholarship. This is where you will provide your essays, upload any supplemental documents, and request confidential evaluations from teachers, coaches, employers, etc.
All application documents must be submitted by 11:00 p.m. on Friday, February 20.
Late application materials will not be accepted.
Incomplete applications will not be forwarded to scholarship committees.
