Erin Mason is a decorated Hood River police officer celebrated not only for his service in law enforcement but also for his exceptional leadership and dedication as a community volunteer. His generosity and commitment to helping others have inspired many to re-examine their own priorities and deepen their engagement in the community.
Beyond his police work, Officer Mason is a highly successful and well-respected golf and tennis coach at Hood River Valley High School, known for his dedication to his athletes. His tireless advocacy for youth development reflects his deep belief in mentorship, sportsmanship, and personal growth through athletics.
In recognition of his impact and the service of all first responders, a scholarship has been established for the children of individuals who work in law enforcement, fire service (professional or volunteer), emergency medical services, or Search and Rescue (SAR) personnel.

CRITERIA
- Cumulative GPA of 2.5
- Applicant’s parent or guardian works in law enforcement, fire services (professional or volunteer), emergency medical services, or Search and Rescue (SAR)
- Graduating senior of Hood River Valley High School

- Essay: The Hood River Rotary Club is a community service organization whose motto is “Service Above Self.” Established in 1927, the Club is part of Rotary International, a global network of more than 45,000 clubs and 1.2 million members.
- In 400 to 700 words, write an essay on what “Service Above Self” means to you. Share at least one example of your community service and describe the effect it had on you personally and on those you served. Reflect on how this concept relates to your own motives and values, and discuss your plans and aspirations for life after high school, including how you might incorporate community service into your future.
Community service may include volunteering in your school, community, or place of worship, as well as service to your family—such as caring for an elderly relative, supporting younger siblings, or holding an after-school job to help with household expenses.
