Greg Bumper Simpson dedicated 33 years of his life to protecting and serving the Hood River community as a firefighter and paramedic. Known for his quick wit, generous heart and unwavering commitment to public safety, Greg was a mentor, friend and hero to many.
To honor his legacy of service, compassion and community, Greg’s family and friends alongside supporters have created the Greg “Bumper” Simpson Memorial First Responder Fund.
The scholarship recipient may apply for up to three additional years if the recipient provides evidence of successful enrollment in a program related to emergency services. The total possible award each year will be determined by available funds and the scholarship committee, to be approved by the GCF board.
CRITERIA
- A demonstrated interest in public service and emergency response
- Plans to pursue or advance a career as a first responder
- High school seniors from any Hood River County school or Hood River County individual entering a career in emergency response who has demonstrated an interest in public safety and plans to pursue a career in firefighting, paramedicine, ED nursing, law enforcement or any other first responder field.

- Essay: respond to each question in one or two paragraphs with as much detail as possible.
