The Butch Ogawa Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Mr. Ogawa’s outstanding contributions to the youth of the Hood River Area. Butch Ogawa was a local businessman and entrepreneur. He was born in La Grande, Oregon, and excelled in all areas of athletics. He went on to become a successful college athlete. Mr. Ogawa got his start in business by an enticing offer to purchase the Chevron on the port in Hood River.
After revitalizing this business, he purchased many buildings and other property in Hood River. Mr. Ogawa was an outstanding businessman but, more importantly, he was a civic-minded person who was dedicated to children and young adults. He worked behind the scenes in many community organizations and always tried to find a way to help as many people as he could.
Two scholarships of $750 each will be awarded. Applicants applying for this memorial scholarship should bear in mind the legacy of Butch Ogawa. One male and one female recipient will be chosen
- Cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher
- Participation in team sport at HRVHS
The Butch Ogawa Memorial Scholarship does not require any additional documents.
Student applications will be scored according to the % shown:
- Community service (40%)
- Participation in multiple HRVHS team sports for multiple years (60%)
